EE to Craft migration

ExpressionEngine to Craft CMS Migration

We move ExpressionEngine sites to Craft CMS: channels become sections, custom fields and Grid become Craft fields and Matrix, files move to Craft assets, and every old URL keeps working through redirects. Fixed price, typically $4,000–$12,000, and four to eight weeks depending on size.

Is Craft the right move?

Craft CMS is the closest thing to ExpressionEngine in how it works: structured content, flexible fields and full template control (Twig instead of EE tags). Teams that like EE's way of working usually feel at home in Craft.

But moving is a rebuild of the templates, not an upgrade. If your EE site is in good shape, upgrading to EE7 is usually cheaper. If you want the widest choice of plugins and developers, compare moving to WordPress. We'll tell you honestly which fits.

How EE maps to Craft

  • Channels → Craft sections and entry types.
  • Custom fields, Grid and Fluid fields → Craft fields and Matrix fields.
  • Relationships → Craft entries fields.
  • Categories → Craft categories or tags.
  • File manager uploads → Craft asset volumes.
  • Members → Craft users, where you need logins.
  • Templates → rewritten in Twig, keeping your design.
  • URLs → kept where possible, with 301 redirects for the rest.

How it works

  1. 1

    Content audit

Every channel, field, add-on and URL pattern listed.

  2. 2

    Mapping plan

How each piece moves to Craft, agreed with you before work starts.

  3. 3

    Build in Craft

Sections, fields and Twig templates matching your design.

  4. 4

    Migrate content

Scripted import of entries, assets and relationships, checked against the original.

  5. 5

    Redirects and SEO

Old URLs mapped, metadata carried over, sitemap updated.

  6. 6

    Launch

Switch-over in a quiet window, then Search Console watched for errors.

What clients say

Quoted word for word from our public Fiverr and Clutch profiles.

"This was the third time we engaged with Arjun. We needed help transferring an ExpressionEngine website to a subdomain and a new host. Challenges included backing up a relatively large site; troubleshooting some issues with ExpressionEngine, css and php; and then performing QA on the new site. The project took longer than expected, but Arjun was responsive and professional throughout the process. It was a pleasure working with him and we would work with him again in the future."

Questions

Will we lose Google rankings?

Not if URLs are mapped properly. We keep the same URLs where possible and add 301 redirects for every one that changes.

Is Craft CMS free?

Craft has a free edition for single-user sites, and paid editions for teams. Check the current plans on the Craft website; we'll recommend the edition you need.

Can our editors keep working during the migration?

Yes. We do a test import early, then a final import just before launch, so nothing published in the meantime is lost.

Should we upgrade EE instead?

If the site works well and your team likes EE, often yes. See our ExpressionEngine upgrade service.
